Ear (Auricular) Acupuncture
Focused support through the nervous system
Ear acupuncture — also called auricular acupuncture — is a focused treatment style that uses specific points on the outer ear to influence the nervous system, pain signaling, and internal regulation.
The ear contains a microsystem that reflects the whole body. By working with these points, treatment can gently shift how the body processes stress, sensation, and internal balance.
At ECHO, auricular acupuncture is used with intention — either as a standalone treatment or integrated into a broader East Asian Medicine approach.
What auricular acupuncture may support
Auricular acupuncture may be used to support:
-
Nervous system regulation and stress recovery
-
Anxiety, restlessness, or emotional intensity
-
Sleep and difficulty settling
-
Pain modulation and tension patterns
-
Headaches and migraines
-
Digestive stress responses
-
Addiction recovery and cravings support
-
Trauma-informed grounding
-
General resilience and recovery capacity
Rather than forcing change, this approach helps the body shift out of heightened or depleted states and into a more responsive, regulated pattern.
A distinct, clinically grounded approach
Auricular acupuncture is sometimes used in standardized protocols, such as the NADA protocol (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association protocol).
This protocol uses a set of five ear points and is widely used in community acupuncture and recovery settings to support:
-
addiction recovery
-
withdrawal symptoms
-
emotional regulation under stress
At ECHO, this approach may be used when it’s appropriate — but it’s not applied automatically. Care remains individualized, with point selection guided by your presentation, your nervous system, and the goals of treatment.
What to expect
Very small needles are placed in specific points on the outer ear. Most people feel little to no discomfort — sometimes a brief sensation, followed by a sense of quieting or settling.
You’ll rest comfortably while the needles remain in place.
Auricular acupuncture may be:
-
a short, focused treatment
-
integrated into a full acupuncture session
-
used alongside other therapies such as body acupuncture, cupping, or herbal medicine
How this fits into care at ECHO
Auricular acupuncture is not treated as a separate “track,” but as one of many ways to work with the body.
It may be used:
-
on its own for focused support
-
as part of Clinical Acupuncture sessions
-
within Wellness sessions for stress relief or as a more accessible entry point for auricular acupuncture, including NADA protocol when appropriate
Care is always adapted — based on what your body is showing, not a fixed protocol.
