Shoulder Pain

Acupuncture for Frozen Shoulder, Rotator Cuff, Impingement & Related Shoulder Conditions

The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body — and one of the most vulnerable to strain, injury, and the kind of protective guarding that becomes its own problem. Whether you're dealing with rotator cuff strain, frozen shoulder, or the dull ache of accumulated tension, the shoulder rarely gets better through rest alone. The nervous system often keeps the area braced long after the initial cause has resolved.

At ECHO, treatment addresses not just the local injury but the broader pattern — circulation, tissue quality, nerve signaling, and the way the whole shoulder girdle holds itself. Using East Asian diagnostic methods, care is individualized to what's actually driving the restriction. Patients often notice improved range of motion alongside reduced pain, with changes that hold over time rather than cycling through relief and flare.

Shoulder pain is often eligible for insurance coverage. See our Insurance page for details.

Shoulder Conditions We Treat

  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) — progressive stiffness and pain with significantly reduced range of motion in all directions

  • Rotator cuff strain and tears — pain with overhead movement, reaching, or lifting, from partial or full rotator cuff injury

  • Shoulder impingement syndrome — pinching pain with arm elevation from compression of tendons in the subacromial space

  • Subacromial bursitis — inflammation of the bursa causing lateral shoulder pain that worsens with activity or lying on the shoulder

  • Biceps tendinopathy — pain at the front of the shoulder from biceps tendon irritation or strain

  • AC joint sprain or irritation — pain at the top of the shoulder from acromioclavicular joint injury or degeneration

  • Post-surgical shoulder recovery » — following rotator cuff repair, labral surgery, or shoulder replacement

  • Shoulder pain from auto accident » or workplace injury » — including soft tissue damage and whiplash-related shoulder tension

  • Chronic shoulder tension and guarding — persistent tightness that limits reach, overhead movement, or comfortable sleep

Shockwave Therapy for Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy & Frozen Shoulder

Radial shockwave therapy (ESWT) has been shown to significantly improve pain and function in both calcific and non-calcific rotator cuff presentations, as well as frozen shoulder — including cases where other conservative approaches have produced limited results. Shockwave stimulates circulation, reduces calcific deposits, and supports tissue remodeling in a joint that is particularly prone to chronic restriction and slow recovery. At ECHO, it's available as a standalone session or as an add-on to specific acupuncture appointments. Learn more about shockwave therapy at ECHO »
