Foot & Ankle Pain
Acupuncture for Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendinopathy, Morton's Neuroma & Related Foot Conditions
The feet carry the full weight of daily life — and when something goes wrong, it changes everything. A heel that burns with the first steps of the morning, a nerve that fires with every step, or an ankle that never fully settled after an old sprain — foot and ankle conditions have a way of quietly reshaping how you move through the world.
At ECHO, care for foot and ankle conditions begins with understanding what's actually driving the pattern — whether that's fascial tension, tendon overload, nerve irritation, joint dysfunction, or reduced circulation to the extremities. Treatment is individualized and guided by how the foot is presenting and how it responds over the course of care.
Foot or ankle pain is often eligible for insurance coverage. See our Insurance page for details.
Common Concerns We Support
-
Plantar fasciitis — heel pain and arch tension that is typically worst with the first steps in the morning or after prolonged rest
-
Achilles tendinopathy — pain, stiffness, and swelling along the Achilles tendon from overuse or degeneration
-
Morton's neuroma — sharp, burning, or electric pain between the toes from nerve compression in the forefoot
-
Metatarsalgia — pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot from overload, poor mechanics, or footwear strain
-
Ankle sprain recovery — acute and lingering ankle pain following sprain, including chronic instability
-
Ankle osteoarthritis — joint stiffness, swelling, and pain with weight-bearing from cartilage degeneration
-
Tarsal tunnel syndrome — tingling, burning, or numbness along the inner ankle and sole from posterior tibial nerve compression
-
Foot neuropathy — numbness, tingling, or burning in the feet from peripheral nerve dysfunction, including diabetic neuropathy
-
Heel spur-related discomfort — pain at the heel associated with bony prominence or surrounding tissue inflammation
-
Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction — inner ankle and arch pain from tendon strain or insufficiency
-
Post-surgical foot and ankle recovery — following bunion correction, Achilles repair, or other foot procedures
-
Cold feet and poor circulation — chronically cold or numb feet from reduced peripheral circulation
How Acupuncture Helps
Foot and ankle conditions often involve both local tissue irritation and contributors from further up the chain — calf tightness, hip mechanics, nerve tension from the lumbar spine, or systemic patterns like poor circulation or inflammatory activity. Acupuncture works across all of these levels.
Treatment is designed to:
-
Reduce local inflammation and pain in the heel, arch, forefoot, and ankle
-
Improve circulation to the feet and lower extremities — particularly relevant for neuropathy and cold-type presentations
-
Release tension in the calf, Achilles, plantar fascia, and surrounding musculature
-
Calm nerve irritation — particularly when symptoms involve burning, tingling, or electric sensations
-
Support tissue recovery and reduce the cycle of reinjury in tendon and fascial conditions
-
Address upstream contributors in the hip, knee, and lumbar spine that influence foot mechanics
Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy in particular respond well to acupuncture, often showing meaningful improvement within a consistent course of care. Nerve-related conditions like Morton's neuroma and tarsal tunnel syndrome tend to improve more gradually but steadily over time.
What to Expect
Your first session includes a focused intake and treatment. We'll look at where the pain is, how it behaves, what aggravates and eases it, and whether there are contributing factors — footwear, activity patterns, upstream tension — worth addressing alongside the foot itself. Point selection is guided by your specific pattern — not a standard foot protocol.
Many people start with weekly sessions for three to four weeks, then taper as pain decreases and function improves. Acupuncture integrates well alongside physical therapy, podiatric care, and your primary provider's plan.
