Acupuncture During Pregnancy
Supporting Ease and Balance Through Every Trimester

Pregnancy is a season of profound transformation — one that reshapes the body's rhythms and asks a great deal of its capacity to adapt. Many of the discomforts that arise during pregnancy are common, but that doesn't mean they simply have to be endured. Acupuncture offers meaningful, safe support at every stage — not as a replacement for obstetric care, but as a steady complement to it.

East Asian Medicine has tracked these patterns in the body for thousands of years. At ECHO, each session is shaped by where you are in your pregnancy, what your body is showing, and what you're navigating at that particular moment. Care is individualized, unhurried, and responsive — adapting as your pregnancy progresses and your needs shift.

Common Concerns We Support
-
Nausea and morning sickness — including all-day nausea, food aversions, and vomiting in the first trimester
-
Fatigue and low energy — particularly in the first and third trimesters
-
Sleep disruption — difficulty falling or staying asleep, restlessness, or vivid dreaming
-
Anxiety, stress, or mood changes — emotional shifts that feel harder to regulate during pregnancy
-
Pelvic girdle pain and pelvic instability — including symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD)
-
Low back pain and sciatica — common as the body's center of gravity shifts
-
Heartburn, acid reflux, and digestive changes
-
Headaches and migraines — particularly in the first trimester when medication options are limited
-
Swelling and fluid retention in the hands, feet, or ankles
Each treatment is individualized — focused on what your body most needs to feel grounded, comfortable, and supported.

Our Approach
Pregnancy care at ECHO follows the same individualized model as all clinical care — beginning with a full intake and pulse diagnosis, and shaped from there by what your body is communicating in real time. There is no standard protocol applied uniformly across trimesters. What is appropriate and effective in early pregnancy differs from what is needed at 28 weeks or 36 weeks, and treatment reflects that.

Acupuncture during pregnancy works by supporting circulation, calming the nervous system, reducing musculoskeletal tension, and helping the body regulate the significant hormonal and structural changes underway. Treatment is gentle, precise, and adapted for comfort and safety at each stage.

When clinically appropriate, herbal medicine may be integrated to support nausea, sleep, or other ongoing concerns — though herbal prescribing during pregnancy requires careful consideration and is selected with that in mind.

Acupuncture during pregnancy is safe when provided by a trained practitioner who understands pregnancy-specific considerations. If you have a high-risk pregnancy or specific obstetric concerns, please consult with your midwife or OB before beginning care.
