Irritability & Tension

Support for Feeling Tense, Reactive, or on Edge

Sometimes, everything feels like too much. Small frustrations spark big reactions. You find yourself snapping at people you care about—or holding it in and feeling the pressure build inside. Your shoulders might be constantly tight, your jaw clenched, your breath shallow.

This kind of irritability isn’t “just in your head.” It’s often a sign that your system is overstretched, overconstrained, or under-supported.

In East Asian Medicine, we view emotions as natural expressions of movement within the body. But when circulation is disrupted—physically or emotionally—those movements can stagnate, swell, or turn inward. Our work together is about restoring flow: easing internal tension, creating space, and helping you feel less clenched inside your own skin.

Common Experiences We Support

  • Low tolerance for frustration or overstimulation

  • Feeling reactive, defensive, or easily angered

  • Clenching in the jaw, chest, or abdomen

  • Irritability around the menstrual cycle or hormonal shifts

  • Tension headaches, neck tightness, or digestive tension

  • Internal pressure or restlessness without a clear cause

  • Emotional sensitivity after long periods of suppression

Our Approach

We don’t try to make your emotions disappear—we help them move more freely. Treatments focus on restoring internal circulation, easing pressure, and supporting the systems that help you regulate rather than react.

Care may include:

  • Acupuncture to help release constraint and regulate emotional rhythms

  • Herbal medicine to support smooth transitions and reduce internal buildup

  • Moxibustion to soften areas of chronic holding or stiffness

You don’t need to be in a state of crisis to receive this care. Many people come in simply wanting to feel more emotionally spacious, physically relaxed, and less at the mercy of daily stressors.

What to Expect

If you’ve felt like you’re walking around clenched, irritable, or on the verge of snapping—this work can help. Over time, patients often report feeling more spacious, more adaptable, and more like themselves again.
