Addiction Recovery &
Smoking Cessation

Support for Breaking a Pattern

There are times when something in life needs to shift—not just mentally, but deeply, physically, and over time. Whether you’re working to stop smoking, change a long-standing habit, or find steadier footing in addiction recovery, these moments often involve far more than willpower alone.

Cravings, stress, emotional intensity, and ingrained patterns can make change feel difficult to sustain—even when you’re fully ready for it.

East Asian Medicine offers support during these transitions—not as a replacement for the care or resources already supporting you, but as a way to help your body and nervous system move through change more steadily.

This work is not only about stopping something. It’s about creating the conditions for something different to take hold.

Common Experiences We Support

  • Nicotine cravings and withdrawal during smoking cessation

  • Stress, irritability, or restlessness when quitting smoking

  • Desire to shift patterns related to substance use or compulsive habits

  • Emotional fluctuations during addiction recovery

  • Feeling caught in cycles that are difficult to interrupt alone

  • Nervous system dysregulation contributing to relapse patterns

  • Fatigue, depletion, or disconnection after long periods of coping

  • Desire to rebuild trust with yourself through steady, supported change

Our Approach

Change does not need to be forced to be real. We work with your body’s pace and your system’s readiness, using acupuncture and East Asian Medicine to support regulation, reduce internal friction, and help you move through the process with more steadiness.

Sessions may include:

  • Acupuncture to regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and support the body through cravings, withdrawal, and emotional fluctuation

  • Herbal medicine to support mood, resilience, and recovery when appropriate

  • Moxibustion to restore warmth, energy, and vitality when the system feels depleted

  • A steady, grounded space designed to support consistency, regulation, and lasting change

This is care for interrupting a pattern—gently, consistently, and in a way your body can sustain.

Working Alongside Your Care Team

Acupuncture can be used alongside primary care, counseling, and addiction recovery programs, supporting your system while other aspects of care are addressed.

For those using the Oregon Health Plan (OHP), acupuncture for smoking cessation and addiction recovery may be covered with a physician referral or as part of a treatment plan. We can help you navigate next steps if needed.

What to Expect

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin. Some people come in with a clear goal, like quitting smoking. Others arrive knowing only that a pattern has become unsustainable and that they want support changing it.

Treatment can help create more space between impulse and action, reduce some of the physiological stress that comes with withdrawal, and support a steadier relationship with your body over time.

For some, this work becomes part of a broader recovery plan. For others, it’s a starting point—one that helps make change feel more possible.
