Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a traditional technique used in East Asian Medicine that gently lifts and decompresses the tissue using specialized cups placed on the skin. This subtle suction helps release restriction, encourage circulation, and create space within areas that have become tight, overworked, or stagnant. It can be especially helpful for chronic muscular tension, stubborn knots, restricted movement, and recovery after physical strain or injury.

The sensation during cupping is often described as a deep pulling or lifting feeling in the tissue—distinct but typically very relieving. Many people experience an immediate sense of looseness and warmth as circulation returns to areas that have been holding tension. The pressure is carefully adjusted to remain comfortable while still encouraging meaningful release.

At ECHO Acupuncture, several styles of cupping may be used depending on what the tissue needs. Cups may be left in place over specific areas to encourage deep release, gently moved across the tissue to mobilize tight fascia, or applied and released rhythmically to stimulate circulation. Each approach works slightly differently, but all aim to restore healthy movement through areas that have become restricted.

At ECHO Acupuncture, cupping therapy is applied with care and intention to help the body soften protective holding patterns and restore ease of movement.
